10 Tips to make working out in the morning more bearable

For those focused on improving their fitness and losing weight, one of the hardest things to do is to maintain a regular, consistent workout routine. This can be especially difficult if you attempt to workout at the end of a long day of work when the body and mind are already exhausted and relaxation is really the only thing on your mind.

Here are 10 tips to help motivate yourself to wake up early and get a great workout in before the hustle and bustle of your day gets underway.

1) Put The Alarm Clock Far From Your Bed
Do you have the habit of hitting the snooze button a few times before actually getting out of bed? One way to remedy this is to put your alarm clock in a place where you will need to physically get out of bed to turn it off. This can be the best way to force yourself to wake up and start the day off right.

2) Set All Your Workout Clothes Out The Night Before
When everything is laid out for you the night before there is nothing to search for in the morning and you will be able to start your workout within ten minutes of waking up. Time is precious especially in the morning when it's limited, so try to maximize the time you have to make it easy for yourself to get going.

3) A Morning Workout Inspires Healthy Eating Throughout The Day
When you get a morning workout, you will be more inspired to stick with healthy eating for the entire day. A morning workout helps you maintain focus on what should be done so that your day can turn out to be a healthy one. You will be more likely to eat sensibly with appropriate portions sizes sticking with water and avoiding other sugary drinks since that's what will help you meet your weight loss goal.

4) Get It Done Early Because You May Be Tired At The End of the Day
Many people state they will work out at night or at least after work, but often those plans change as you go through the day's events. It may be really difficult to workout after a long day of work especially if you are not used to this type of routine. Do yourself a favor and just exercise when you are nice and fresh in the morning to ensure it gets done.

5) Do not Turn On The Television, Just Get Dressed And Go
One of the biggest distractions in the house is the television. After waking up do not turn it on since your attention may get caught up with what is being shown and you'll forget all about working out. Save the entertainment for later.

6) Go To Bed An Bit Earlier
Many of us enjoy the evening hours when we casually watch television whether it's a movie, tv show, or the news. However, it's easy to burn away a couple of hours glued to the tv when instead you can go to bed a little earlier than usual to better the likelihood of waking up to workout.

7) Pop Up When The Alarm Rings
Try not to lay there internally struggling with the decision if you should get up. That should not be an option if exercising and losing weight are priorities for you. Get in the habit of popping up when your alarm goes off and get right to business. Once you develop this habit, it becomes easier to do on a regular basis.

8) Make A Workout Wall Calendar To Track Your Progress
Many people like visual stimulus so use this to your advantage and create a monthly wall calendar where you keep track of your workouts. Put stars / stickers on the days you workout so it will be easy for you to see how many days per week you are exercising. You can even use this calendar to track your daily eating habits and your weekly weigh-ins for even more motivation.

9) Have A Specific Workout Plan
Decide the night before what type of workout or exercise you will be doing in the morning so there is no confusion what's on the agenda. Make this decision while you are getting your workout clothes ready. Will you be running, swimming, biking, going to the gym, using a treadmill, elliptical or stationary bike, calisthenics, at-home DVD program, etc.?

10) Remember Your Overall Fitness Goal
Even though it may feel like torture to you, exercising and eating healthy are really the complete opposite. It just may seem like a punishment as your body gets used to the new routine and your muscles get used to being regularly used. Once you follow through with this ritual for a month or two, you will start looking forward to this hour long moment of physical activity and delight in your new found physique.
